Passive Fire Protection

A Head of Wall joint is the linear gap between the top of a wall assembly and bottom of a floor assembly. An acrylic based firestop sealant for low movement is used as Firestop resistance Joint Filler. Widely Paintable, fast and easy dispensing, smoke, gas and water resistance sealant is used.

Metal Pipes
The space around the Metal pipe and wall/floor is considered as annular space and it needs to be Fire-rated as per the Specification. Insulated Metal Pipes
The space around the Insulated Metal Pipe and Wall/Floor is considered as annular space and it needs to be Fire-rated as per the specification. Mostly Acrylic or sometime Intumescent Sealant is used depending on the Insulation Material.

Combustible Pipes
The space around the Plastic pipes and the wall/floor is considered as annular space and it needs to be Fire-rated as per the specification. An Intumescent sealant is widely used along with pipe wrap depends on the size of the pipe or Pipe material. And some application a retaining collar is required.

Insulated Combustible Pipes
The space around the Insulated Plastic pipes and the wall/floor is considered as annular space and it needs to be Fire-rated as per the specification. HVAC Penetration
Mostly Metal Duct or Insulated Metal Duct is used and the space around the penetration and the Wall/Floor is called the annular space and it needs to be Fire- rated depending on the specification. An Acrylic based or Intumescent sealant is used depending on the Insulation of the Duct.

Electrical Penetration (Cable Tray, Trunking, Busbar, Conduit)
The space around the electrical penetration and the wall/floor needs to be Fire- rated as per the specification and widely Intumescent sealant is used for lesser annular space and coated board system or Mortar is used where the annular space is high depends on the standard.

Multiple Penetration
An Opening with more the one penetration is called Multiple Penetration and it needs to fire-rated as per the specification. Widely Intumescent sealant is used for lesser annular space and coated board system or Mortar is used where the annular space is high depends on the standard.

An Opening with No penetration on it or planning for the future penetration to pass through is Blank opening and it needs to be Fire-rated based on the Specification. Widely Intumescent sealant is uses for lesser annular space and coated board system or Mortar is used where the annular space is high depends on the standard.

An edge of a slab to exterior is usually considered as Perimeter Joint Firestop. A Sprayable fire-rated mastic/paint is used for construction joints where maximum movement is required. A Maximum movement capability, can be used with many standard sprayers, water based formulation, resist cracking after installation mastic/paints can be used.

WHAT IS AN EXPANSION JOINT ?
An expansion joint is an empty space, free of any material between two parts of a structure designed to safely absorb thermal expansion and contraction of building structures, to absorb vibration or to allow horizontal, vertical or shear movements due to soil settlement or seismic activity.

The Firestop Rope system consists of a core of fireproof and rotproof mineral fibers bound by an outer braiding of fiberglass thread. They are resistant to water and humidity, as well as to most aggressive chemicals and micro-organisms. The Firestop Rope system meets norms for horizontal and vertical joints: tested without sealant and with a movement of +20%, they come in diameters from 12 mm to 180 mm and are EI 240 (fire integrity and thermal insulation of 240 minutes without failure) rated for all joints with gaps from 10 mm to 200 mm.

The Firestop Ropes are suitably marked so that they can be easily identified and an inspection after installation can confirm that the correct product has been used. Waterproofing & protection: Some floor, wall and ceiling expansion joints might require additional protection. For a waterproof joint, the upper section of the joint must be filled with an elastomeric sealant, or a waterproof membrane must be applied to the joint. A joint cover, a flexible section or a mechanical joint can also close the expansion joint.
